Top Ten Met Gala Looks

Okay, now that we've had some time to digest the LOOKS the elite fashionistas served to us last night at the annual Met Gala, I feel that it is time to round up my top ten looks of the night. If you aren't aware, the Met Gala is the annual fundraiser that kicks off that years Costume Institute exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art here in NYC. In recent years, the Met Gala has really been thrust into a pivotal place in pop culture due to social media. And because so many celebs are willing to break the no inside photography rule, we have had insider access to the once mysterious and secretive event. This years theme and exhibition, Camp: Notes on Fashion, brings to light the cultural importance of the ironic and exaggerated subculture that has been a pivotal part of our society for centuries. Camp can be found in the outlandish outfits of the guests at Versailles, and runs rampant throughout African American and LGBTQ culture. Camp and irony also can be found in our modern political landscape, just a little less fashionable. Like the essay surrounding the exhibit, "Notes on Camp" by Susan Sontag, the exhibit and the Gala aimed to discuss camp in a serious and worth way, so without further ado, here's my top 10 looks of the night:

10. Jared Leto

He's just so weird and I love it.

9. Ciara

This. Is. Camp. Not only is it out of this world stunning, it embodies the 70's African American camp, which we are all here for.

8. Jordan Roth

Maybe because I love a good Theatre Legacy, but Roth's ensemble was not only structurally beautiful, it showcased the connection between performance and Camp in it's most basic form.

7. Lupita Nyong'o

I just needed an excuse to stare at her makeup a little more.

6. Kacey Musgraves

A Barbie Girl in a Barbie World. Barbie has become a symbol of camp, and for good reason, she brought the ideas of camp into mainstream acceptance. Not only is this look stunning, it is backed with pop culture significance.

5. Hamish Bowles

I'm sorry, if you're not seeing the camp here, I do not know how to help you.

4. Ezra Miller

This is art, and I will not let anyone else say otherwise.

3. Zendaya

A light-up Cinderella ballgown WITH a performance? Camp.

2. Lady Gaga

She invented modern camp, did we expect anything less?

1. Billy Porter

Not only did I find my preferred mode of transportation, my heart stopped like 8 times watching him.

So, as I was making this list, like 30 other people came to my head that should be included. I truly feel like this year was the best, people took risks and had fun, which is what fashion is all about.

Which one was your favorite?

I do want to give a special shout-out to the Kar-Jenner Krew for at least not wearing the same old boring dresses they always do (Kanye, do better). You can tell they are afraid of stepping out of their comfort zones but they did more this year than ever before.
