A Day in New York City: Lower Manhattan Women Owned Business Edition

New York City can be a magical place filled with adventure, fun, and empty bank accounts... but it can also be an overwhelming and intimidating place filled with thousands of things you feel like you should be doing. I wanted to create this guide to ease your planning whether you are in NYC for a day or a lifetime. This guide will focus on the general "Lower Manhattan" region that includes Greenwich Village, Soho, Nolita, The Financial District, and The Lower East Side (as well as smaller neighborhoods in that area). My hope is that if you decide to spend a day romping around Lower Manhattan, I can give you the perfect day of supporting women owned businesses close proximity to each other!

I highly recommend checking out each business's website or social media to learn about their COVID protocols before heading out! Some might have reduced hours, limited seating, and a streamlined menu or may have closed some locations either temporarily or permanently.

Brunch

The Butcher's Daughter- Nolita, West Village, Williamsburg

This Instagram worthy brunch hot spot is the go-to place for experiencing white-washed, plant filled serenity. Heather Tierney runs this 100% vegetarian, clean-eating focused restaurant with locations in NYC and LA.

Lovely Day- Nolita

Kazusa Jibik's downtown institution serves Asian fusion style dishes in a cozy and artistic environment. Their brunch menu is ever changing and filled with swoon worthy staples like french toast and banana pancakes.

Shopping

McNally Jackson- Soho, South Street Seaport

One of my all-time favorite NYC bookshops! Sarah McNally's curated year extensive bookstores are chic, modern, and the perfect blend of NYT Bestsellers and self-published novels yearning to be discovered by book lovers.

The Sill- Lower East Side

The perfect potted plant wonderland for the plant parent of any level. Eliza Blank's plant experience makes starting and growing your plant family as easy as possible. They also have faux plants, if like me, you can literally kill any green thing that comes into your house.

Warm NYC- Nolita

If you're into the laid back beach vibes often found in the boutiques of Miami and LA and want to pick them up in New York, look no further than Winnie Beattie's surfer chic shop! They focus on high quality craftsmanship and beautiful patterns to bring the sun and surf vibe to city dwellers and they're great at it.

Love Adorned- Nolita

Lori Leven's edgy jewelry shop focuses on vintage, travel inspired, and one of a kind pieces to give every client an exciting and beautiful jewelry.

No. 6 Store- Little Italy

Karin Bereson's boutique of classically beautiful and quirky styles known for their handmade clogs is an upgrade to any wardrobe.

Coffee and Tea

Matchaful- Soho

This aesthetically pleasing tea bar founded by Hannah Habes partners with generational Japanese tea farmers to source their delicious matcha with a focus on social and environmental responsibility. Stop in and grab a matcha latte to refuel your day and then place an order online and try to remake our drink at home!

Blue Spoon Coffee Co.- Fidi/ Tribeca

The cutest little coffee shop owned by Heather Teegarden and specializes in great coffee, food, and overall experience. They heave heavenly ciabatta sandwiches, paninis, and salads for the perfect midday rest and pick me up.

Beauty and Wellness

Chill House- Lower East Side

The ultimate cool girl wellness spa made solely for Instagram, Cyndi Ramirez-Fulton has created to go-to place for a stunning and feed worthy backdrop for your trendy mani.

Dinner

Dirt Candy- Lower East Side

Amanda Coen's innovative and creative vegetarian menu with ever changing fare will keep you coming back for more to try their sandwiches, dinner platters, and desserts.

The Beatrice Inn- West Village

Angie Mar's West Village staple is the go-to place for classic dishes with a freshly innovative twist. Perfect for the carnivores who want interesting cuts and artistic presentation. The Beatrice Inn has been charming the Village since its 1920s speakeasy days, when literary royalty like Fitzgeralds were more than friendly with the bar.

After Dinner Drinks

Tokyo Record Bar- Greenwich Village

A part of Ariel Arce's entertainment empire, blending good vibes, DJs, and funky drinks and dishes. Hidden under the red light on MacDougal St, this pre fix menu is a definite once in a lifetime experience.
